A Little More of Lisbon

Day 2
After a Ritzy relaxing breakfast meeting mom's Tauck friends, I headed out to grasp at a little more bits of Lisbon before we had to fly out.
I gained a keener appreciation for their sidewalks – Cascade Portuguesa.  Every single sidewalk is a mosaic made with small blocks of granite and basalt – which is shockingly quite slippery when wet. Yesterday I saw a sidewalk that was designed to mimic ocean waves. I was captivated to see how my motion (driving by) actually made it appear to be rippling! It is surprising to see how temporary such hard work is – as it is only set in gravel/sand. Quite often as you walk you see a few blocks kicked off to the side.

My destination for the morning was a long walk back towards the river to see the Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo. The steep, colorful street has a funicular and includes a view to the river.  It is supposed to be touristy but the street itself was empty… all the tourists were crammed onto the funicular.  I was glad to be able to see (on foot) at least one tourist attraction!

On to Marrakech… to be continued.
